There are three main parts that make up the electrical system in your vehicle – the battery, alternator and starter. When any one of these parts is not functioning properly, your vehicle may not start. That means you will have to call for road service or a tow.

Preventive Maintenance and Your Vehicle’s Electrical System

Many problems with electrical systems can be avoided with a little bit of care and preventive maintenance. Here are a a number of helpful tips:

Tip #1:  Periodically check the battery and its connections to make sure they are clean. Cleaning battery terminals and cables are a simple process, but you may not want to do that yourself. We can take care of it for you when you bring your vehicle in for service.

Tip #2:  If you have to jump start your car, never use another car that is running.  Instead, jump start your car using the other vehicle’s battery power alone. We provide 24-7 emergency road service to assist with a car that won’t start.

Tip #3:  Before turning the key in the ignition, turn off all the components that are a major drain on the electrical system, like the heating/air conditioner and stereo.

Tip #4: Batteries typically last about 4 years. Replace your battery when it is approaching this age. We can test it for you to let you know if the battery should be replaced.
